Why not? It takes a long time to degrade and is still radioactive even though it has been depleted. I have seen a lot of reports that have said this too.

It's true that it's radioactive, but that alone doesn't make it WMD. Plenty of things in life are radioactive.

You cannot use depleted uranium to make a nuclear bomb. It wouldn't make an effective dirty bomb, either. It's used because it's a very heavy metal - heavier than lead, even. It makes good armor, and good projectiles too.

It's radioactive enough to be bad for your health, but it's not radioactive enough for that radioactivity to be used as a weapon.

DU is essentially a "dirty bomb"

they dump the shit all over the place, the shit does not go away for millenniums, it causes the same diseases and illnesses that fallout from nuclear blasts does, there are areas of iraq that are not safe for humans, etc.

If you were to make a dirty bomb with DU, it wouldn't be very effective at all. It's not radioactive enough to be use as a weapon in that sense.

I agree that it's an environmental hazard, but that's not the same as being WMD.

I don't doubt that you think that, nor that you are completely unqualified to make that call. That is the essence of smug self-righteousness.

Whats the essence of smug universe-righteousness?? Wait screw that, whats the essence of egomaniacal universe-righteousness?

It seems apparent that those who are trying to unravel Iraq from within are trying harder to do so just as we are trying harder to stop them. Does that mean that the surge is not working? Well, if we assume that they have the greater resources to draw upon, then I suppose it does. If we assume that they have a stronger will to win, then I suppose it does.

Of course, so long as Democrats don't cut off funding for our troops, we have the greater resources. As to our troops' will to win; I imagine it has got to be hard to keep morale high when it seems that so many in your government and so many of the people back home and around the world are calling daily for you to throw in the towel, give up, and go home.

I think a better way to phrase it would be "As long as Generalissimo El Busho doesn't veto funding for our troops, we'll have greater resources to bog ourselves down yet even further".

Why are you there in the first place? Who invited you? Just how do you define "WIN" and what is it you will "WIN"??

For the oil. (Seriously, don't you keep up on these things?)

Saddam did when he breached the terms of the ceasefire. (You do understand what a ceasefire is and what it means when one is broken, right?)

Being able to leave behind a stable Iraq that is able to defend itself from threats from without and from within.

The undying (albeit unspoken) admiration and gratitude of people just like you around the world.

Yes I do.
Quote:
The Americans also wanted to protect Saudi oil and the faltering Saudi economy from the competition of cheaper Iraqi oil. That remains Washington's real reason for opposing the lifting of sanctions. 'If Iraq were allowed to resume oil exports,' wrote Phyllis Bennis, one of the most astute American commentators, 'analysts expect it would soon be producing three million barrels a day and within a decade, perhaps as many as six million. Oil prices would soon drop . . . And Washington is determined to defend the kingdom's economy, largely to safeguard the West's unfettered access to the Saudis' 25 per cent of known oil reserves.'

Are you SERIOUSLY referring to UN 1441?

3000+ dead US Troops, tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of Iraqi civilian dead, faltering supplies of electicity, gas, water to the main cities of Iraq and this in over 4 years of US "help".

I'm thinking that is a bit of a stetch. The rest of the planet now holds us in contempt. And how do we know when we've won? Will the Muslim faith still be intact, once we've "won"? There are no winners here, everyone loses.

.....Uh,,,Yes?

Lemme ask you my man...?
How do you see us actually winning there over in Iraq?
Even Petraeus said it's likely to be like Northern Ireland with ongoing "spectacular" bombings here and there...great outcome, huh?
You keep beating your head against the wall..and you're not willing to stop either somebody has to move the wall or your head is gonna break apart at some point

And I'm thinking we need to come up with some special signal I can give to let you know when I'm joking.
