What are you thoughts on the current Republican candidates after the first debate(but not solely based on the debate)? Who is the best? Who is most likely to win?

My thoughts:
I was shocked by how well Romney did, I was hesitant to believe his pro-life position but his answer to embryonic stem cell research was just the answer that made me a believer. However he is a Mormon, and while I do not know much about the religion I do know there is a stigma attached because of Utah Mormons. Glen Beck is a Mormon and I think I would vote for him in a heart beat.

Brownback and Tancredo have good ideas but don't seem winnable or likable enough.

McCain and Rudy are phonies.

Ron Paul, who the fuck let him in I think Xerxes likes that guy, he was kinda creepy, but I loved his idea of repealing the 16th Amendment. (Although a bunch of them favored the Fair Tax system, which I like)

But where is Gingrich and Fred Thompson, I want to see them on stage. Gingrich/Romney might be the ticket I want to see. That could change, the field is wide open I think.

Well, right now, I don't really have a favorite candidate, so my current vote goes to "anyone but Hillary". However, I also thought Romney did very well, but I am hesitant to believe what anyone says as politicians tend to say whatever the people want to hear just to pick up votes. I like Fred Thompson, but even if he does run, I feel he may not pick up enough of the moderate vote to win. If we want a Republican in office in 2008, Giuliani may be our best bet as liberals and conservatives alike seem to like him. I dont like Paul or McCain, but if it comes down to them or a Lib, I would probably go for the lesser of two evils and vote them. No candidates on either side impress me so far, looks pretty bleak Rolling Eyes

Well, speaking as a hard core Republican, myself. I like John McCain. I like the idea that he is willing to follow Osama to the gates of hell. And take America right along with him. With a smile on his face, no less. I like Brownback's stance on evoVcreation , yet I really like Romney's religious views. I love Fred Thompson's fiscal issues, I mean, let's face ti....That guy made a lot of cash being a D.A.(Arthur Branch), that's almost as good as playing a sideman on "Bedtime For Bonzo". I really like Guiliani's authoritarian stance on police techniques to squash the "Peaceniks". Tommy Thompson has great eyebrows, but not good teeth. I was hoping that Tom Delay was going to run, THAT man would make a great president!

But, that Ron Paul guy is out of his mind. RonPaul has been nicknamed "Dr. No" for his opposition to tax increases and spending bills. He has chastened his fellow Republicans for abandoning the party's ideals. Dr. Paul seeks to "reinstate the Constitution and restore the Republic."

Don't get pulled in; romney is bullshitting. Internally he's probably not against abortion, but ultimately, i don't think he really cares. He just says what he has to to get elected.

Did my admiration show that much? It is a real disservice to the whole country that Dr. Paul is getting no exposure now at all. Once they seen the interest that he had sparked.

    Quote:
Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record
    * He has never voted to raise taxes.
    * He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
    * He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
    * He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
    * He has never taken a government-paid junket.
    * He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
    * He voted against the Patriot Act.
    * He voted against regulating the Internet.
    * He voted against the Iraq war.
    * He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
    * He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Fred is Hollywood, so maybe the moderates will eat him up when they realize he is on Law and Order. I would have to think long and hard about voting for Rudy, he just doesn't seem right to me. At least he is honest on his positions , I just think they stink.

Thanks, for your smart ass comments. So You don't like Romney because of his religion(wow how open minded, today he said polygamy was awful).

I liked McCain remarks on Bin Laden, too bad he is already most likely in hell. Thats about all I liked from him.

Fred was a Senator before he was an actor, so what if he didn't stay a career politician like the rest of them.

You really like this Republican Ron Paul, huh? Send me a link so I can learn more about him, one that you like. He is not winnable so don't get to excited, but you are right, there are some things I liked about him, especially the elimination of the 16th Amend.

Who would you see yourself supporting, other than Ron Paul? He seems kinda alone out there.
