Plenty of time left? Ha! Wars and global warming and overpopulation and energy crisis and we're supposed to be able to support more than 6.6 billion people? society is collapsing already! Remember that we need much more than just enough space for people to live, we need enough unused space for crops and forests for clean air and grazing for cattle and farm animals. We have a lot of time left compared to the puny amount of time our lives consist of, but in the long run we better start preparing for it now, I mean think about the sun taking over the earth, it won't happen for millions of years, but we need to have developed colonies OFF-WORLD by that time, thats a lot of work, big projects need a lot of time to put ninto place, and overpopulation is a huge problem to deal with.

My family has fours kids, I know of many others who also have four, and many other younger couples who have three already and still many a year to come. Besides, with all the divorce going on nowdays not to mention adoption and so on, you could have one child per marriage and still beat that replacement birth rate.

If you gave me dictatorial powers over all of humanity, i could fix it in 50 years.

But, of course, i'm not dictator of the world. I'm just some asshole. Leaders are appointed or democratically elected, and I can't help it that the people choosing them are anti-progress slackers.

Birth rate is actually determined in terms of births per 1,000 people. If i recall correctly (which i believe i do), the replacement rate averages out to about 3 kids per couple; obviously, that's only a limited glimpse of the dynamics of the system since, as you say, plenty of people have more or less, and there's plenty of divorce and remarriage.

I would not mind you as dictator of all humanity, but I think that we'd have to make sure you didn't get too power hungry, I'll be co-dictator.(I have this plan for an island where only the perfect live, it would be completely self sufficient, run by clean energy, and you would have to be both mentally and physically fit to enter, or have a lot of money-but shh, keep it on the DL)

How do they do births per 1000 people? Does that mean people over the age of consent or people over 18?? Or people over 25 perhaps? Surely you don't count children who can't reproduce.

World fertility rate would probably be what we're looking for.

No comment on the dictator thing?

Well, no one's ever told me before that they wouldn't mind me as dictator, nor have i ever thought they would. So i don't really have a reply to it.

it is the nature of a species to multiply, when there is nothing to crub the population, adnt here isn't, they just go on and on and on and on.

Doesn't work that way in humans. As a nation's economy gets more advanced, its birth rate goes down.

I would like to point out the nature curbing thing. There was a study on rats, where they put 200 rats in a enviroment.(monitered) And they put in a controlled amount of resources. The rats multiplied to about 2000, then they realized overcrowding and started killing off members, and decreased their birthrate till the population was aroud 1400, this repeated. NATURE DOES curbstomp it self.
